CARAD Named a Finalist in the 2026 Australian Human Rights Awards

We are truly humbled and honoured to announce that the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) has been named a finalist in the 2026 Australian Human Rights Awards, one of four finalists for the Human Rights Medal.

The Awards honour those who have made significant contributions to protecting and promoting human rights in Australia. We are deeply proud to be recognised for the essential services and advocacy we have provided since our founding in 2000.

CARAD CEO Suha said:
β€œTo us at CARAD, this recognition reflects the impact our services have on the lives of people seeking asylum, and the importance of continuing to advocate on their behalf.

Thank you to our community, volunteers and everyone involved in our programs. Our achievements would not be possible without your continued support.

It is an incredible honour to be recognised for 26 years of supporting and advocating for people seeking asylum and refugees in WA. Congratulations to the other finalists, who are recognised for their exceptional contributions to advancing dignity, fairness and opportunity across Australia. It is a privilege to be nominated alongside you all.”

This nomination highlights the unique impact of our programs:

  • Client Services: casework, personal advocacy, healthcare, housing, material aid, referrals and immigration detention visits.

  • CARAD Pantry: food and hygiene items for individuals and families in need.

  • Opening Doors: support with literacy, education, employment, conversational English and social inclusion.
